Study Timer

A study timer turns an open-ended evening of "studying" into a series of short, focused sessions with real breaks. Our free online study timer runs in your browser: set a focus interval, list what you need to get through, and work one timed block at a time. No account, no download.

How to study with a timer

1. List your subjects as todos. "Chapter 7 notes", "20 flashcards", "practice problems 1–10" — concrete tasks, not "study biology".

2. Study in 25-minute blocks. One task, phone out of reach, until the timer rings. This is the Pomodoro Technique, and it works because 25 minutes is short enough to start even when you don't feel like it.

3. Actually take the breaks. Five minutes away from the desk after each block, and a longer break after four. Breaks are when what you studied consolidates — skipping them is a false economy.

4. Adjust the duration. Reading dense material might suit 50-minute blocks; grinding flashcards might suit 20. The timer's focus duration is fully customizable.

Study timer for Mac

Studying on a MacBook? The Pomodoro Timer app for macOS puts the study countdown in your menu bar, so it stays visible next to your notes and slides. It's a one-time $3.99 purchase on the Mac App Store.

Start a study session

Open the study timer, write down your first task, and start the clock. One focused block is worth more than an hour of distracted rereading.
